Ms. Dunn was born in Los Angeles, California. She was admitted to practice in California in 1976 and she also is admitted before the United States District Courts for the Central District of California and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.
Ms. Dunn's practice focuses on defense of professional liability litigation at the trial and appellate levels, defense of State Bar disciplinary matters, consultations regarding professional ethics and malpractice claim repair, and law office risk management reviews.
Ms. Dunn formerly served as Assistant to the Chief Trial Counsel of the State Bar of California. In that capacity, she prosecuted serious and complex lawyer disciplinary matters, and was responsible for special projects on a broad range of issues related to professional standards, disciplinary procedures, lawyer competence, incapacitated attorneys, and attorney-client trust accounts. She was a frequent speaker on behalf of the State Bar before various community groups and at continuing legal education programs, and was designated by the Chief Trial Counsel to testify as an expert witness regarding professional ethics and standards.
Since 1983, Ms. Dunn has been involved in the defense of civil litigation, with emphasis on professional liability cases and disciplinary proceedings. While most of that experience has been as an advocate, she also spent five years as a claim director, managing professional liability litigation against lawyers, architects and engineers and other professionals, making coverage determinations, negotiating claims dispositions, and conducting professional liability risk management reviews for insurers and others.
Ms. Dunn has testified as an expert witness on standard of care and legal ethics issues in both civil and criminal proceedings and she frequently consults with lawyers and others regarding legal ethics, law office risk management, and other professional liability issues. She also serves as faculty at continuing legal education seminars on these topics. |
